The Meridian Kung Fu (UK) Instructor Programme is an amazing opportunity for individuals who have a burning passion for martial arts and a desire to educate others. This unique programme is designed to train exceptional students to become certified Meridian Kung Fu Instructors and eventually run their own branch.
The programme consists of 6 levels of progression, each offering valuable skills and knowledge. To reach the Probationary Instructor level, participants must successfully complete all 6 levels. The coaching and management skills are taught at monthly seminars led by experienced Instructor and business mentor, Sifu Steve Carpenter. These seminars are complemented by practical training in actual classes once a week, allowing students to develop the high level of skill required to become a Meridian Kung Fu Coach.
What makes this programme even more incredible is that it is completely free of charge. However, please keep in mind that due to limited availability, only a specified number of new recruits are accepted each year. Throughout the 4-year programme, strict guidelines must be followed. There are also additional costs involved, such as coaching kit (£60), coaching manual (£15), and DBS (£9) certification.
Level 1 of the programme focuses on basic class involvement duties. Participants will learn how to set up equipment, prepare the training area, and run basic health and safety checks. This level also provides an opportunity to observe the structure of the class.
Moving on to Level 2, participants will be introduced to coaching skills, including pad and drill training under strict supervision. They will learn how to establish rapport with individual students and assist with warmups.
Level 3 is all about class management systems. Participants will learn important tasks such as maintaining the class register, organising students before and after a training session, and ensuring order within the training area. They will also become familiar with following the curriculum and assisting with cool downs.
Level 4 delves into advanced coaching skills. Participants will learn how to coach small groups and maximise student participation. They will also discover techniques to make sessions enjoyable and effective, as well as running warm-ups and cool downs.
In Level 5, participants will focus on demonstration coaching ability. This level provides knowledge in equipment set up, performing health and safety checks, conducting small group curriculum training, and leading warm-ups and cool downs.
Finally, Level 6 offers branch management tuition. Participants will learn about various areas such as economics and enrolment, marketing and recruitment, maintenance, insurance, and first aid. Completing Level 6 will grant participants provisional Instructor status.
Once all the levels have been successfully completed, Meridian Kung Fu (UK) offers zonal opportunities for new Instructors to open a branch on a one-year trial period. If all the standards outlined in the Instructors handbook are met during this trial period, full Instructor status will be granted. Additionally, for Instructors who require it, Meridian Kung Fu (UK) can provide a full-time premises on a lease basis in any area of the UK.
