Metro Judo Club

Metro Judo Club is a local community-based club in Greenwich, London. Established in 1977, the year of the Queen's Silver Jubilee, the club aims to bring judo to the young people of Greenwich and nearby areas at an affordable cost. Alongside promoting judo, the club offers various youth services through collaborations with partners in the London Youth service.

Training sessions are on Wednesdays and Fridays. On Wednesdays, juniors (8-15 years) train from 6:30pm to 8:00pm, and seniors from 7:30pm to 9:00pm. On Fridays, sessions for tots (4-7 years) run from 6:00pm to 7:00pm, followed by juniors (8-15 years) from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. There are also autism sessions, with 8 to 11-year-olds from 9:30am to 10:30am and 12 to 16-year-olds from 10:30am to 11:30am.

Metro Judo Club is affiliated with the British Judo Association, the sport's governing body in Great Britain, and the British Olympic Association. The club is proud to be associated with organisations such as Greenwich Youth Service (Young Greenwich), London Youth, Jack Petchey Foundation, Volunteer Centre Royal Greenwich, and Access Sport.

A team of dedicated volunteer coaches, welfare officers, young volunteers, and youth workers runs the club. All coaches and welfare officers hold valid British Judo Association licences, coaching awards, and have completed necessary background checks, including DBS checks. They also have current safeguarding and first aid certificates.

Metro Judo Club received the Queen's Award for Volunteer Service, recognising their outstanding contribution to the community. A management committee ensures smooth operation, fostering a safe and inclusive environment for all participants.

To maintain a positive atmosphere, the club has a code of conduct for players, parents and carers, coaches, officials, and volunteers, which guides respectful and safe interactions within the club.
