Minami Kaigan Karate UK is a Dorset-based traditional Wado-Ryu Karate club located in Poole. The club offers training sessions to individuals of all abilities and experiences, with both male and female students welcome. The only requirement is that students must be at least 6 years old to participate. There is no upper age limit, although it is recommended that adults consult with their GP before joining to ensure they are fit enough for the sessions.
Lessons are held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings at three different locations in Poole and Blandford. On Tuesdays, the training session takes place from 5:30 PM to 6:15 PM at the Hillbourne Community Centre in Waterloo Estate, Poole. On Wednesdays, the session runs from 6 PM to 7 PM at the Skinner Street United Reformed Church on Skinner Street, Poole. Finally, on Thursdays, the training session takes place from 7:45 PM to 8:45 PM at the Blandford Gymnastics Club in UNIT 16 Uplands Park, Blandford.
The club follows a traditional Wado-Ryu syllabus and regularly conducts gradings to allow students to progress through the various coloured belts. The next club grading is scheduled for Sunday, 26th November 2023, from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM at the Skinner Street United Reformed Church in Poole. To participate in the grading, students must have a current licence and complete the grading slip, which should be returned no later than Thursday, 23rd November.
The training fees for Minami Kaigan Karate UK are as follows: the first trial lesson is free for new students. After the free trial session, training fees for the next few weeks, until a standing order is set up, will be 6 per lesson, payable on the night. For one lesson per week, the fees are 25 per month, payable by standing order at the beginning of each month. For unlimited training, the fees are 35 per month, also payable at the beginning of each month by standing order.
Occasional extra lessons can be attended at a cost of 6 per session, payable on the night.
