If you're interested in exploring mindfulness meditation, Move for Better Health offers different pathways to suit your preferences and needs. One option is individual sessions, which provide flexibility and the ability to move at your own pace. During a 60-minute initial assessment, our experienced Physiotherapist will thoroughly go through your history, goals, and any questions you may have. From there, they will design a personalised treatment plan that may include home practice, ongoing sessions, or participation in the more specific Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course.
The MBSR course is an evidence-based, 8-week program that has proven beneficial for managing stress, chronic pain, and anxiety. Originally developed at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in 1979, this course is now taught worldwide in various settings. The classes are highly participatory, supportive, and structured, providing guided instruction in mindfulness meditation, gentle stretching and mindful yoga/movements, group discussions, and exercises to enhance awareness in everyday life. Participants will also receive home practice materials, including recordings and a workbook, to facilitate their progress.
It's important to note that participation in the MBSR course requires a commitment for the entire duration. Attendees will be expected to attend all classes, including an all-day session, and practice daily for approximately 30 minutes.
Facilitated by Marelle Wilson, an Associate of Openground, Australia's largest Mindfulness training network, the MBSR course at Move for Better Health is designed to offer a safe and beneficial experience for the public.
