Montao Taekwon-Do, located in Hamilton, is a martial arts school that prides itself on promoting strength, compassion, and diversity. The classes at Montao Taekwon-Do are all instructed by Head Instructor Sabum Nim Rebecca Montao, a VI Degree Black Belt with a wealth of experience in the art of Taekwon-Do. The school is open to students of all ages, starting from 4 years old and up. Additionally, neurodivergent students are warmly welcome at Montao Taekwon-Do.
The history of Montao Taekwon-Do dates back to its founding in 2017, named in honour of Sabum Nim Montao's late father, Master Barney Montao. Sabum Nim Montao herself has trained extensively in Taekwon-Do, earning national and world championship titles. The school offers a variety of programs, including classes for families, individuals, and children. The goal of Montao Taekwon-Do is to provide a positive, non-competitive environment for students to challenge themselves physically while learning practical self-defence.
As a registered dojang under ITF-TAO, Montao Taekwon-Do teaches Chang Hun Taekwon-Do, following the principles established by the Founder General Choi Hong Hi. The school places a strong emphasis on traditional training methods to bring out the best in each student, while promoting courteous communication both in class and in daily life. Students at Montao Taekwon-Do have the opportunity to set goals and develop the necessary skills to achieve them, all while upholding respect, courtesy, and self-control.
Whether classes are held in person outdoors or online via ZOOM, Montao Taekwon-Do is committed to preserving the highest standard of technical excellence in the art of Taekwon-Do. Sabum Nim Montao continually renews her International Instructor certification and offers students the chance to attend technical seminars with top-quality instructors from around the world.
