Those looking to join the Moose Jaw Koseikan Judo Club, the club offers a variety of classes for all ages and skill levels. Beginners aged 4-6 can join classes on Wednesdays, while youth aged 7-16 have classes on Monday and Wednesday evenings. Teen novices and high-performance classes are offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and adult recreation classes take place on Thursdays. Additionally, kata classes for both adults and youth are available on Tuesdays.
Fees collected from members go back into the club as there are no paid instructors. All the instructors volunteer their time and expertise to ensure the success of the club. Prospective members are encouraged to come down and try out Judo before making a commitment. The club maintains traditional values such as bowing and respect, while also fostering a sense of team spirit.
There is no pressure to join, and individuals are welcome to try Judo for a few weeks before deciding to officially join.
Judo is not only a sport but also an art, a means of self-defence, and a way of life. The principles of Judo, such as “Maximum Efficiency” and “Mutual Welfare and Benefit”, can be applied not only on the mat but in daily life as well. The ultimate goal in Judo is to develop oneself to the maximum extent possible and contribute something of value to the world.
The Moose Jaw Koseikan Judo Club has a rich history dating back to the 1940s and is run entirely by volunteers. The club is a member of Judo Saskatchewan and Judo Canada, which is recognized by the International Judo Federation as the governing body of Judo in Canada.
