Hello everyone,
Kieran Thompson here, dropping a line to the awesome sports community! Kieran’s the driving force behind Mountaineering Skills, nestled in the picturesque town of Auchterarder, Scotland. Some of you might already know him as an enthusiastic member of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors (AMI).
Kieran’s put together a variety of training courses and guided activities for anyone with a love for the mountains and climbing, no matter your skill level. It’s all about blending fun and safety, making sure everyone has a grand day out on the rocks.
If rock climbing catches your eye, the ‘Intro to Rock Climbing’ course is a great start. Whether you’ve only tackled climbing walls or you’re a complete newbie, this course gives you hands-on experience on real rock. You’ll learn the needed techniques and work at your own pace, all with a personalised touch thanks to the 1:2 instructor-student ratio. The course is £120 per person or £240 for 1:1 instruction.
Ready to step it up a notch? Check out the ‘Learning to Lead Climb’ course. It’s designed to build your lead climbing skills safely, whether you’re on single pitch crags or multi-pitch mountain routes. Kieran’s instructors tailor the experience to your goals, ensuring you’re climbing at a level that suits you.
For scrambling enthusiasts, Mountaineering Skills has you covered too! There are guided scrambles up iconic routes like Tower Ridge (Ben Nevis), Curved Ridge (Buachaille Etive Mor), and Aonach Eagach (Glen Coe). If you fancy becoming more self-sufficient, the ‘Scrambling Skills’ course will teach you all the safety, movement, and rope skills you need.
Winter lovers, rejoice! The Winter Skills course includes everything from crampon and ice axe techniques to avalanche awareness. Plus, there’s a chance to nail a Munro while you’re learning. Kieran also offers custom multi-day courses tailored for individuals and groups.
Mountaineering Skills doesn’t stop there. They also feature Ski Touring and Winter Navigation courses, where you can hone your off-piste skills and learn to navigate in whiteout conditions with confidence.
And for those who want to be prepared for any situation, the Mountaineering Rescue Skills courses cover rescue principles and practice in various scenarios. There’s also Rescue Emergency Care (REC) First Aid Training if you want to up your first aid game.
