Murray River canoe trails, the Canoeing club in Mathoura, is excited to promote an upcoming local Canoeing event. This event aims to attract interested players who are eager to explore the beautiful Murray River and its surrounding trails.
The Murray River canoe trails, situated in Murray Valley National Park and Victoria’s Barmah National Park, offer a diverse range of options for paddlers. Whether you prefer the serene tranquility of secluded creeks, the magnificent flow of the Murray River, or the picturesque Barmah Lake, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
To ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants, these canoe trails are suitable for adults and children aged 10 years and over. While swimming ability is necessary, no prior canoeing experience is required. However, it is highly recommended to fill out a trip intention form. This form allows you to inform someone about your planned route and share important details about your trip with your emergency contact.
There are four distinct canoe trails available to choose from:
1. Picnic Point to Barmah Lakes day visitor area: This one-way trail covers a distance of 17.4 km and takes approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete. 2. Barmah Lakes day visitor area to Rices Bridge: This return trail covers a distance of 2.74 km and takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. Paddle downstream to explore the captivating Broken Creek and Rices Bridge before returning the same way.
3. Barmah Lakes day visitor area to Barmah Lake: This loop trail covers a distance of 5.3 km and takes approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes to complete. Head upstream into Barmah Lake for a short loop, or opt for the longer loop that leads to the upper reaches of the lake, where dense reeds create a captivating atmosphere.
4. Barmah Lakes day visitor area to Barmah: This one-way trail covers a distance of 11.08 km and takes approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes to complete.
