Neath Bushi Kai Karate Club is a renowned martial arts club located in Neath, Wales. As part of the Welsh Bushi Kai Karate Association, the club offers karate training to individuals of all ages, ranging from 4 to 65 years old. Whether you are a beginner or have prior experience in martial arts, Neath Bushi Kai Karate Club welcomes new students and encourages parents to participate alongside their children.
The club emphasises a holistic approach to training, focusing not only on physical fitness but also on mental wellbeing. Through regular training sessions, students develop self-defence skills, confidence, flexibility, strength, fitness, determination, and a competitive spirit. Most importantly, the club instils a deep sense of respect among its members.
To ensure the safety and well-being of all participants, it is mandatory for students to become members of the Welsh Bushi Kai Association. An annual membership fee of 30 is required, and students must sign a licence promising to use karate solely for self-defence purposes or to protect others.
Training sessions at Neath Bushi Kai Karate Club are structured according to the individual's skill level. Instructors group students into separate classes based on their abilities, ensuring that each student receives training targeted at their level. While training can be challenging, it is designed to be enjoyable and engaging.
The club follows a set syllabus, which students must master in order to progress through the ranks. Junior students typically grade every four months, but as the syllabus becomes more technical and challenging, grading becomes less frequent. However, it is important to note that while grading is encouraged as a way to track and encourage growth, it is not essential. Some students choose to train solely for the love of the art and not to advance their belt colour.
Neath Bushi Kai Karate Club holds its training sessions at Ysgol Hendre Bryncoch in Neath. Sessions take place on Mondays and Thursdays, with junior grades (under 16) training from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and senior grades (over 16) training from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
