Nelson Rugby Football Club, known as “Nelson RFC,” is the oldest rugby club in New Zealand, having been founded in 1868. The club's rich history and heritage can be traced back to its first game in 1870, which was played between Nelson and Nelson College at the Botanical Reserve in Nelson City. With a strong commitment to promoting the development of rugby in the Nelson and Tasman region, as well as beyond, Nelson RFC welcomes players of all skill levels and ages.

In line with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Nelson RFC has adopted the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the New Zealand government and is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all its players, staff, and supporters.
To celebrate the club's 150th anniversary, Nelson RFC has produced a series of interviews with club legends and personalities, capturing their memories and creating a living history of the club. These interviews can be found on the club's dedicated YouTube channel.

The website features recent news and updates, including the recipients of various awards such as the Gargiulo Trophy for the Sportsman of the Year, the Mourie Pugh Tackling Cup, and the Don & Myra Fowler Senior Sportsman of the Club award, among others.
The club also places importance on its junior rugby teams, organising a dedicated prize-giving event to celebrate their achievements. Awards such as the McDonald's Trophy for Outstanding Attitude and the Female Player of the Year Turnstone Cup are given, highlighting the dedication and talent of young players. The club also acknowledges the contribution and support of individuals who have made a significant impact on the junior club by presenting them with the Rochelle Walker Memorial Cup.
