Hayle Surf Life Saving Club, a local Surf Life Saving club in Hayle, is excited to promote an upcoming event for their Nippers club. Nippers is a fantastic opportunity for children aged 7–13 years old to learn about sea and beach safety while enjoying an active and fit lifestyle.
The club welcomes children of all abilities, catering to those who may be completely new to swimming as well as county-level swimmers. With experienced and qualified coaches who have undergone CRB checks, the children will be in safe hands as they learn essential lifesaving skills, including basic first aid, surf skills, and water confidence.
During the summer sessions at Hayle beach, the young participants will have the chance to develop their sea confidence by learning to swim in the ocean. Additionally, they will gain valuable skills in nipper board techniques, wading, and engaging in fun beach games. Understanding the waves and potential dangers of the beach is also a crucial aspect of the club's education. First aid knowledge will round out their training, ensuring they are well-prepared for any situation.
Hayle Surf Life Saving Club places great emphasis on fostering confidence and enjoyment in the sea and surf environment. As an added incentive, awards in Surf Safety can be earned, and those who wish to take their skills further have the opportunity to compete at both local and national levels.
To provide personalised attention and quality instruction, beach sessions are divided into smaller teaching groups, ensuring a manageable adult-to-child ratio. The club strongly encourages parents to participate, especially for children aged 7 and 8 who require parental presence during the session. While children will need their own wetsuits, the club offers the convenience of borrowing one initially. To ensure easy identification in the water, all members are required to wear club hats, while a coloured vest is provided to indicate group affiliation.
During the winter months, the action moves to the Penzance Leisure Centre Pool on Saturday afternoons. The activities offered vary according to the children's swimming ability. Non-swimmers will focus on learning to swim, while top swimmers will concentrate on rescue techniques. Participants are kindly asked to bring their goggles, and flippers can be borrowed or brought from home for maximum enjoyment. For those interested in competing, a club swimming hat will also be necessary.
