Northampton Rowing Club (NRC) is a small and friendly sports club located in Northampton, New Zealand. Affiliated with British Rowing, the club is situated on a beautiful 3 km stretch of the River Nene. Since its establishment, NRC has shown great dedication to the sport of rowing and has become a recognised presence in the rowing community.
The club's facilities have undergone significant improvements over the years. In 2009, NRC completed the first phase of replacing its ageing boatstore with a new facility. The boathouse now provides storage for coaching launches and a wide range of boats, including single sculls and eights. In 2014, the club undertook the second phase of its project, adding a first floor that houses a gym and a clubhouse, offering enhanced facilities to its members.
NRC shares some amenities with Northampton Active, which is also home to the Northampton Canoe and Kayak Club. The centre provides ample changing and showering facilities, as well as a convenient caf for members to enjoy after their training sessions.
Despite being a small club, NRC remains active throughout the year, organising races, events, and social activities. Training takes place on weekends, both in the morning and on weekday evenings, specifically on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The club boasts a diverse membership, with some members having participated in esteemed national events such as Henley Royal Regatta, Henley Women's Regatta, The National Schools Regatta, and The National Rowing Championships of Great Britain.
NRC takes pride in the achievements of its GB Rowing athletes, whose performances continue to inspire others to try rowing as a sport. As one of the approximately quarter of a million people who row, scull, or cox in England monthly, NRC encourages individuals to register for their upcoming event and discover if rowing could be the perfect sport for them.
Operated by dedicated volunteers, NRC is a nonprofit club that is always seeking new individuals to contribute to the running of the club. The satisfaction of helping out, whether it be coaching, running indoor training sessions, or tending to the grounds, is immeasurable. Volunteers have the opportunity to witness the club's growth and success firsthand, as well as see their efforts translate into the achievements of the members. Aspiring coaches are also welcome, as the club can arrange courses to help interested individuals develop their coaching skills.
If you are interested in joining Northampton Rowing Club or would like to play a role in its continued success, please reach out to the chairman. The club's commitment to safeguarding and child protection is of paramount importance, ensuring that all members and participants can enjoy a safe and enjoyable experience at NRC.
