Northern Trail Horse Riders Club is a vibrant and active sports club located in the Northern Areas Council of South Australia. With a membership of around 20 dedicated horse riders, the club holds monthly rides where members can come together and enjoy the beautiful Australian landscapes on horseback.
The club's rides typically take place on Saturdays and Sundays, allowing members to make a whole weekend out of their riding experience. To enhance the sense of adventure, members have the option to camp out at the ride location, providing a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in nature. Essential facilities such as toilets, water, and yards are available on-site, ensuring members are self-sufficient during their stay. There may be camp fees applicable for these overnight experiences.
Each ride attracts between 6 to 12 riders of all ages, creating a diverse and inclusive environment. To participate in the rides, both riders and their horses should have the ability to confidently walk, trot, and canter in various terrains. Safety is of utmost importance, and riders are recommended to wear helmets and have smooth-soled, heeled riding boots.
The club organises their rides across a wide region that ranges from Burra to Quorn, ensuring members have the opportunity to explore different terrains and landscapes. The terrain can often be rough and steep, and for stony rides, it is advisable for horses to wear horse shoes or boots. The club boasts a variety of horse breeds, from Coffin Bay ponies to Quarter Horses, and riders use different types of saddles, including English and Western, focusing on comfort for both rider and horse.
To become a member of the Northern Trail Horse Riders Club, an annual fee of $110. 00 for adults is required. This fee covers both insurance with ATHRA (Australian Trail Horse Riders Association) and club administration and stationery costs. New members are required to be approved by the club and pay the fees at least a week before their first ride.
For those interested in joining, it is advised to contact the club early to begin the process.
For up-to-date information on ride schedules and photos, individuals can visit the club's public Facebook page, “Northern Trail Horse Riders (SA) PUBLIC GROUP. ” Additionally, once becoming financial members, individuals gain access to a closed Facebook group where ride locations and specific requirements are shared, along with relevant club documentation.
