Northway Climbing Centre

Northway Climbing Centre is a rock climbing gym located in Newbury, New Zealand. With a focus on providing a safe and inclusive environment, Northway Climbing Centre offers a range of activities and facilities that cater to climbers of all levels, from beginners to experienced climbers.

The gym's opening hours are from 10am to 10pm on weekdays, and from 10am to 6pm on weekends. It is also open on bank holidays with normal hours of operation. For first-time visitors, it is important to complete a waiver before arriving, and all climbers under the age of 18 must be supervised by an adult.

For those new to climbing, Northway Climbing Centre offers bouldering induction sessions where participants can learn about bouldering safety and basic climbing techniques. Additionally, the centre provides rope climbing walls, and climbers must complete an in-centre belay and safety assessment to climb these walls. Adults can supervise up to two climbers under the age of 18 at a time.

Northway Climbing Centre is proud to offer the NICAS and NIBAS climbing schemes for children aged 7-17. These schemes provide structured learning experiences for children to learn rope climbing or bouldering, while also working towards nationally recognised awards.

When it comes to sustenance, the gym offers hot food options such as pizza and paninis. Pizza options include Margherita, Hawaiian, Veggie, and Pepperoni, with vegan options available. Paninis are served with your choice of crisps.

Northway Climbing Centre also organises a variety of social events, including Ladies Night, Top-Rope Social, Sen Session, and U18 Rope Social. The gym regularly hosts competitions and is available for birthday parties and corporate bookings.

In terms of climbing courses, Northway Climbing Centre offers a range of options, including NICAS & NIBAS, bouldering inductions, top-rope beginner courses, top-rope bespoke sessions, bouldering coaching, and yoga classes.

The facilities at Northway Climbing Centre are top-notch. The gym features a large main bouldering room with comfortable café seating, a top-rope and lead area, a moon board, a gym café and seating area that serves pizza, a changing room, toilets, an equipment shop, and a bookable party room. Please note that there is no clip and climb available.

Northway Climbing Centre offers various pricing options for entry, shoe rental, and membership. Discounts are available for military personnel, students, Blue light members, and seniors. Family membership options are also available.

Northway Climbing Centre is not just a gym for climbing; it also hosts The Kitty Mazinsky Quartet, a swing and jazz group based in Newbury. The quartet, led by vocalist Kitty Mazinsky, creates a relaxed vintage sound with double bass, keys, and percussion, providing the perfect ambiance for various events.
