Garden of Yoga, a Yoga club located in Northcote, is excited to invite interested players to a local Yoga event. The event, called Nurturing Yoga and Pilates, combines Pilates movements with Yogic sensibility, focusing on breath and sensory awareness. Participants will also have the opportunity to engage in meditation and guided relaxation at the end of each session.
This class is designed to cater to individual needs and promote a sense of balance. It is particularly suitable for pre and postnatal practice, although joining the class live in the studio is recommended initially, as instructors can provide assistance with different props and options. Those interested are encouraged to reach out via email or phone to have a chat ahead of time.
For those unable to attend in person, the class is also shared online via Zoom. All that is needed is a laptop or phone, as well as some space to practice. Through Zoom, participants will be able to see the teacher leading the class and receive interactive guidance, including variations and answers to any questions. If navigating Zoom is new, there is a blog post available on How to use Zoom for the Live online Yoga classes, providing simple instructions. Lack of pilates props at home should not be a concern, as improvisation is possible with items such as pillows, rolled-up blankets, tennis balls in a sock, and a scarf or pair of tights. Additionally, new classes are constantly being added to the Online Library every week.
Another exciting offering from Garden of Yoga is the Midweek Movement class, held every Wednesday from 12:30 pm. This class is exclusively online, providing the opportunity to rejuvenate oneself after hours spent in front of a computer screen. In each session, participants can expect a combination of self-massage, movement, yoga, and pilates. The class is live and interactive through Zoom, ensuring that our instructor, Jo, will be present to address any queries and help individuals find the variation that suits them best. Each week, the focus of the session may differ, with some being more energising while others are geared towards relaxation. If participants have additional props such as a foam roller, spiky ball, Makarlu, or yoga block, keeping them nearby will offer more options.
Garden of Yoga also offers the Nurturing Yoga and Pilates Course, where individuals can tune in to their individual needs and work towards balance, enhanced core strength, and pelvic floor awareness. The course consists of 5 videos that can be practised individually or combined for a longer workshop-style experience. Similar to other classes, the course incorporates Pilates movements and mobility props like the foam roller and peanut, all while maintaining the Yogic sensibility and focus on breath and sensory awareness. The Nurturing Yoga and Pilates Course can be purchased through our website.
Participating in these classes at Garden of Yoga offers numerous benefits, such as enhanced core strength and pelvic floor awareness. The use of Pilates props, including the foam roller and stability ball, allows for strength-building in a supported manner, leading to improved balance, posture, and confidence in various movements. Participants can work at their own level, as the majority of movements are floor-based or supported with props. Jo, our instructor, has received specialised training in Accessible Yoga for larger bodies, Pilates for Active Ageing, Pre and Postnatal Pilates, as well as years of experience assisting students with MS and rehabilitating different injuries. This makes the class an excellent option for individuals seeking a safe and nurturing space, particularly for expectant or new mothers. Additionally, athletes or those with specific training goals can benefit from this class as a means of providing active rest and balancing out their overall movement repertoire. However, it is essential to consult with a doctor before returning to exercise and ensure readiness before engaging in certain practices.
When it comes to attire, it is recommended to wear clothes that allow for easy movement and relaxation. Comfort should be the priority.
The practice offered through Garden of Yoga is very gentle and adaptable, making it suitable for various individuals. While there are no specific contraindications, it is important to disclose any injuries or health conditions when filling out the New Client Form. If any questions or concerns arise, please feel free to get in touch with us.
