Ogston Sailing Club, located in Alfreton, is a vibrant and inclusive sailing community in Derbyshire, New Zealand. Led by Natalie, the current Commodore of the club, the team consists of experienced instructors and passionate sailors who are dedicated to providing exceptional on-water experiences for both social and competitive activities.
The club offers various opportunities for sailors of all levels, with regular racing events taking place on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. Additionally, there is a Fun n Free Friday social session where sailors and paddleboarders come together to unwind and socialise after a long week. These sessions provide a great way to meet fellow enthusiasts and enjoy the water in a relaxed and friendly environment.

As part of their commitment to offering diverse water sports experiences, the club introduced Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) in 2021. SUP is one of the fastest-growing water sports in the UK, and Ogston Sailing Club aims to expand its offerings in this area in the future. While access to the water is currently limited to club members only, the club welcomes inquiries about their reduced membership rates for paddleboard users. Frequently Asked Questions
We run dinghy racing and free sailing, and we also offer Stand Up Paddleboarding. Ogston is an RYA Teaching Centre running Learn to Sail courses for adults and juniors, and our Paddle UK qualified SUP instructors run SUP courses too.
Most dinghy racing in peak season takes place on Wednesday evening, Saturday and Sunday, with free sailing running alongside it. On Friday evenings from April to late September, the water is busy with free sailing, training and coaching at Ogston Reservoir.
Membership includes use of the club boats and SUPs for everyone who has reached the required minimum skill level. For joining details, use the contact link on the club page.
