Okanagan Aikido

Okanagan Aikido is a martial arts school located in Kelowna, British Columbia, dedicated to the practice of Aikido, a system of martial movement derived from classical Japanese combative forms, particularly Daito-Ryu Aikijujitsu. The school utilizes weapons such as the sword and staff to train timing, critical distance, and stress management, which complements the hand-to-hand training.

The dojo offers a warm and welcoming community where members can grow together both physically and spiritually. Okanagan Aikido emphasizes the practice of kata-based non-combative frameworks to bring awareness about oneself, one's place in the world, and the interconnectedness that leads to mutual understanding and respect. The school is not focused on modern sport combat systems; practitioners should have a desire to train with a focus on understanding the movements and principles of Aikido. The school holds regular classes on Mondays and Fridays and outdoor weapons practice on Saturdays. The monthly fees for adults are $60, students $40, and visiting Aikidoists are encouraged to contribute a drop-in fee.
