Members to update you on the history and current activities of the Old Ignatian Football Club. The Old Ignatian Football Club is a part of the Old Ignatian Association, which was established to serve the interests of former pupils of St. Ignatius College in Enfield. The Association aims to provide social, spiritual, and sporting facilities for its members, allowing them to maintain relationships with both the college and other alumni.
The Old Ignatian Association maintains a comprehensive database of its current members, including names, addresses, email addresses, details of members overseas, years at college, and current occupations. If you are a former pupil of St. Ignatius College and would like to be added to the database, or if you know any Old Ignatians that would, please complete and return the alumni form in the Membership section of our website.
The Association publishes a periodic newsletter to keep members up to date with the latest news and events. We also hold regular social functions, which can be found in the Events section of our website. These events are a great opportunity for members to reconnect with each other and share memories of their time at St. Ignatius College.
The history of the Old Ignatian Association dates back many years, but it wasn't until the early 1960s that the Association's profile changed dramatically. A dedicated group oversaw the acquisition of a sports ground in Woodford, which included three football and three rugby pitches, as well as a cricket square. With the addition of a pavilion, the Association's sporting facilities flourished.
Unfortunately, in the early 1970s, the sports ground was compulsorily purchased to make way for the M11, leaving the Association homeless. The Association then used Woodcroft, a small sports ground in Winchmore Hill for a few years, but it proved to be unsuitable. Since leaving Woodford, the Association has struggled to offer a focal point for its activities.
In 1999, the Association purchased the former Belling sports ground in Turkey Street, Enfield with the intention of building a new headquarters. The Loyola Ground, completed in April 2008, now serves as the home of the Old Ignatian Football Club. The facility includes a bar, a large function area, a kitchen, and a football pitch with changing and showering facilities.
The aim of the Old Ignatian Football Club is to re-establish the social centre that the old Woodford site provided. While the club focuses primarily on football, it also aims to cater to the requirements of Old Ignatians who may not be specifically interested in sports. The club welcomes Old Ignatians as well as current pupils, and the facilities have already been used by the school for both sporting and social events.
The Old Ignatian Football Club is dedicated to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all members, old and new. We have a packed social calendar designed to bring members together and make use of our fantastic facilities. We hope that through our links with the school and the efforts of our dedicated members, the Old Ignatian Association will continue to grow and flourish for many more years to come.
