The school is led by Professor Steve Oliver, a 3rd-degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Ricardo Librio. Prof. Oliver is a hard-working family man who comes from a legacy of world-class athletes, with his father being New Zealand heavyweightlifter, Don Oliver. He has a wealth of experience in various forms of martial arts and has trained in some of the most elite gyms worldwide.

Apart from running five branches of Oliver MMA gyms nationwide, Professor Steve also organises the largest grappling competition in New Zealand, NZ Grappler. His passion for giving back to the community led him to start Oliver MMA as a place for those who needed a home. He has developed and delivered a curriculum that has been refined for precision training.
