OMMA Budo | Gyokushin Ryu Aikido

The spirit of Gyokunenkan Aikido and Japanese Martial Arts Studio, OMMA Budo is a vibrant and inclusive martial arts school located in Clarkson, Australia. Founded in 2016 by Brad Palmer, a dedicated Aikidoka with a 2nd Dan rank, OMMA Budo is deeply connected to the North West Tasmanian community.

Situated in Sulpher Creek, right on the stunning coastline, OMMA Budo offers a wide range of martial art and fitness classes for all ages and genders. The school takes pride in providing two styles of Aikido: Gyokushin Ryu Aikido (pre-war) and Yuishinkai Aikido (post-war). These two styles harmonise flawlessly, embodying the vision of the founder, O Sensei, for a harmonious world.

In addition to Aikido, OMMA Budo also offers OMMA classes, which stands for Open Mat Martial Arts. These classes bring together various forms of martial arts like boxing, kickboxing, karate, kali, ku fung, jiu-jitsu, groundwork, and weapons training. Karate, known as the “way of the empty hand,” focuses on strikes against specific points on the human anatomy. Due to the nature of these techniques, karate is taught as a complimentary art to students who demonstrate maturity and have attained an intermediate level.

Judo, founded by KANO Jigoro, is a safe and enjoyable modern form of Jujutsu. It combines standing projection techniques with chokes, arm locks, and ground controls. Judo is particularly suitable for children as it promotes physical activity while integrating ethical guidelines into sporting techniques.

For those interested in the art of the katana (Japanese sword), Kenjutsu offers advanced students a technical and historical perspective on the origins of many fundamental Aikido techniques. Precision, timing, and footwork are emphasised in this discipline.
