Welcome to Onna Ju-Jitsu, a family-friendly local martial arts club located in Bradford, West Yorkshire. Established in 2000, Onna Ju-Jitsu Club has quickly become one of Yorkshire's most successful organisations, with over 600 students training in Bradford and surrounding areas.
At Onna Ju-Jitsu Club, we pride ourselves on creating a diverse and friendly environment for anyone who wishes to learn the art of Ju-Jitsu. We believe in providing a fun, safe, and supportive atmosphere that helps our students reach their full potential. We adopt an Equal Opportunities policy and welcome students of all races, colours, religions, disabilities, ages, genders, social statuses, and sexual orientations.
Our club's ethos revolves around bringing the community together through various activities. Alongside practising Ju-Jitsu, we organise events such as Onna Walks, teaching people how to ride a bike through our Onna Bike programme, and school holiday playschemes. We have been nominated twice for the Bradford Community Harmony Awards, recognising our efforts in bridging gaps within the community. Our Senior Club Coach, Sensei Mumtaz Khan, MSc (hons), has won prestigious awards such as the Bradford Inspirational Women's Award in Sport (2014) and the Active Bradford's Sports Coach of the Year Award (2015).
Onna Ju-Jitsu Club has also received recognition at a national level. We won Sport England's Satellite Club of the Year Award in 2014, beating over 3000 other clubs. Our Onna Bike initiative was awarded joint Best Community Project by Cycling UK in 2016. These accolades highlight our commitment to excellence and community engagement.
Ju-Jitsu is a martial art that emphasises technique over brute force. Although it originated in mediaeval Japan, Ju-Jitsu has gained popularity among police and armed forces as a practical form of self-defence applicable to today's society. Our Ju-Jitsu skills can be applied by men, women, and children to counter aggressive situations, ranging from harassment to armed physical assault. The art revolves around a system of throws, joint locks, and strikes based on the principle of using an aggressor's negative energy to their disadvantage.
Onna Ju-Jitsu Club also hosts annual championships competitions, allowing students to showcase their skills and progress through various belt levels. We provide comprehensive training programmes for both senior and junior belts, ensuring continuous growth and development for our students.
