Overhang Climbing Centre

Welcome to The Overhang Climbing Centre, situated just outside Carmarthen town. Our indoor Climbing and Bouldering Centre is located inside the former St. Davids Church on Picton Terrace. We offer top rope climbing and lead climbing up to 12 metres, as well as an 11-metre long bouldering area.

At The Overhang, we pride ourselves on not only providing a fantastic climbing experience but also serving a variety of hot and cold drinks, including the wonderful Teifi coffee, as well as a selection of yummy cakes and snacks.

Parking is available on site, but in the event that our carpark is full, there are a number of car parks in Carmarthen that you can utilise.

The Overhang opened its doors in December 2020, amidst the COVID 19 pandemic. Despite the challenges, we have steadily grown our business into what it is today, with an incredible climbing community.

Whether you are new to climbing or an experienced climber, we have something for everyone. For beginners, we offer taster sessions to introduce you to the sport and provide courses to teach you the skills needed to climb unsupervised. If you are already an experienced climber or boulderer, all you need to do is register, turn up, and have fun!

For those who may not have a climbing partner, we have “belay buddy Wednesday” and our “Adult Social” every Friday night, where you can climb with others in a friendly and welcoming environment.

If you have children who would like to get into climbing, we have after school and weekend clubs that they can join. Additionally, we offer sessions for schools and groups, which can be arranged outside our normal opening hours if required. Whether your child wants to try climbing in a one-off taster session or follow the NICAS syllabus with structured sessions, we can cater to their needs. Upon achieving each level, children will receive a certificate.

Children are welcome to climb at The Overhang under the supervision of a competent, registered adult climber. Alternatively, they can attend one of our Instructed Taster Sessions. If you wish to register to supervise, you must either be an experienced climber or have completed our Adult Beginner Course. Parents/guardians who are registered may sign in a maximum of 2 children per adult in the Centre at any given time, recognising the challenges of keeping an eye on multiple children.

Children under 14 years old are not permitted to climb unsupervised, while those between the ages of 14 and 17 can climb unsupervised once they have passed our Junior Sign-off.
