After much discussion and planning, Papamoa Sports Bowling Club officially became Papamoa Bowls on 20th April 1998, with 80 members joining the club. The club's first artificial green was completed in September 1999, providing a year-round playing surface for its members.
Since its establishment, Papamoa Bowls has grown in membership and popularity. Currently, the club has 92 members who enjoy playing on the all-weather green, available for games of bowls 365 days a year. The green is open for use from daylight to dark, allowing members to play at their convenience.
The club also offers free coaching to its members, ensuring that both beginners and experienced players can improve their skills. In addition to regular games of bowls, the green is also available for social events and business house bowls. The club room, which can accommodate up to 50 people, provides an ideal space for socialising after a game. It also has a small kitchen, allowing members to prepare light refreshments.
New members are always welcome at Papamoa Bowls, with a 50% discount offered to new bowlers who join the club. The club prides itself on being inclusive, welcoming people of all ages and abilities. Wheelchair users can also use the green without causing damage, making it accessible to those with disabilities.
Social bowls is a popular activity at Papamoa Bowls, attracting both bowls players and non-players. The artificial surface makes it easy for non-bowls players to enjoy their time on the green. Roll-ups happen every Wednesday and Sunday afternoons, with a small cash prize awarded to the winners and runner-ups. New players can be supplied with club bowls each time.
Papamoa Bowls has a rich history, starting with its inaugural meeting in April 1997. The club's steering committee worked tirelessly to establish a bowling green and secure sponsorship from local businesses. After facing some challenges, the club successfully opened its first artificial green in September 1999.
