Pemberton Golf Club, located in the picturesque Shire of Manjimup, is a vibrant sports club that has become a hub for the local community. With a strong focus on volunteerism and community engagement, Pemberton Golf Club has garnered support and involvement from both its members and the surrounding community.
One of the recent projects undertaken by Pemberton Golf Club and its dedicated volunteers was the rebuilding of the club's buggy and tractor shed. Outgrowing their previous shed, the decision was made to pull it down and start fresh. With the help of local tradespeople and a team of enthusiastic volunteers, the new shed is expected to cost around $85,000, all of which will be raised through voluntary efforts rather than relying on external funding.
In addition to their fundraising efforts for the shed project, Pemberton Golf Club has found unique ways to generate income and support their operations. Club and community members have taken to growing produce, including potatoes, pumpkins, and squash, on land adjacent to the course. These crops are then harvested and sold at markets in Perth. The club also sells avocados from 80 trees planted across the course, as well as raising funds through sausage making, hay sales, and wood raffles.
This entrepreneurial spirit is not new to Pemberton Golf Club. Between 2014 and 2019, a combination of fundraising, donations, grants, and a loan helped them rebuild their clubhouse at a cost of over $400,000. The club has been fortunate to have the support of dedicated volunteers, local tradespeople, and skilled club members who have contributed their expertise and labour to keep costs down.
Since opening its new clubhouse in 2019, Pemberton Golf Club has already set its sights on further improvements. The completion of the buggy shed is just the beginning, as the club plans to enhance its outdoor amenities and ladies' tees. There are also plans to expand the course's two dams to improve irrigation.
One of the highlights of Pemberton Golf Club's calendar is the annual King Karri Kup, a prestigious golf competition now in its 64th year. This event, held over the June long weekend, consists of a 4BBB pairs event on Saturday for men's, women's, or mixed pairs, followed by an individual men's Stableford event on Sunday. To accommodate participants, the club provides a free bus service between the club and the town on both nights.
Pemberton Golf Club welcomes visitors and encourages anyone in the Pemberton vicinity to explore and enjoy the beautiful course. Whether participating in the King Karri Kup or simply admiring the fruit of their labours, the club offers a warm and inviting atmosphere for golf enthusiasts of all levels of skill and experience.
