Established in 1983 by a group of rugby players seeking summer recreation, the club has since grown into a thriving and successful sporting community. Over the years, the club has welcomed new players with open arms, and currently boasts a diverse membership of both experienced bowlers and those new to the game.
The club's green was carved out of the rock of the Garth Mountain, with the official opening taking place in 1991, presided over by Dr Kim Howells MP. Despite early comments about the standard of the green, the club's dedicated groundskeepers, including Head Groundsman Harold Evans and, more recently, Bill Malcolm, have worked tirelessly to improve the surface. Today, the green and its surroundings are in pristine condition, thanks to the efforts of the current groundskeeper, Jim Martin.
Pentyrch Bowling Club offers a range of activities and events for members and visitors alike. Every Monday throughout the summer, the club hosts “Spoons” nights, social games that are enjoyed by an average attendance of almost 40 people. One of the club's annual highlights is the tour, usually held in the first week of June. Previous tours have taken place in stunning locations such as Tenby, Saundersfoot, Pendine, and Weston-Super-Mare.
In 2016, after three years of hard work and generous donations from club members, Pentyrch Bowling Club successfully raised funds to construct a purpose-built clubhouse. Over 50% of the funding was provided by the Welsh Government through its Aggregate Levy Fund. The clubhouse has become a source of pride for the club, and members eagerly anticipate its official opening in the upcoming season.
