Provide a friendly and inclusive environment for table tennis enthusiasts in Petersfield. With almost 10 years of experience, the club has grown and achieved great success. Currently, the club has an active membership of around 50 players from various age groups and skill levels.
Located at The Petersfield School on Cranford Road, the club operates on two evenings per week, specifically on Mondays and Thursdays. The playing area is the Assembly Hall, which offers high ceilings and a wooden floor, providing an ideal space for table tennis. The club has five tables available for use. Sessions are held every Monday and Thursday throughout the year, except on Bank/Public Holidays, amounting to approximately 46 weeks in a year.
During busy times, there may be a waiting period to get on a table, and players may be encouraged to play doubles. On Monday club nights, there are three sessions. The first session, from 6:30 to 7:30, is specifically for juniors, beginners, and new members. Qualified Level 1 Session Coaches are present to provide structured coaching and free play time.
Additionally, a Junior Award scheme is in place, allowing juniors to earn Bronze, Silver, and Gold awards based on their progress.
The second session, from 7:30 to 8:30, is a mixed session for adults and juniors of all abilities to freely play and interact. New adult members and beginners are welcome to join and mingle with existing club members. In this session, a few competent juniors join lower league players, fostering a friendly atmosphere where skills and experiences are shared.
The final session on Mondays, from 8:30 to 9:30, is dedicated to intermediate and advanced players, primarily adults. This session offers a mix of serious practise, free play, coaching, multi-ball exercises, ladder matches, and work with the Robot.
On Thursday club nights, starting from January 4th, 2024, a mixed open session is held from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. This session is open to all club members with Table Tennis England (TTE) registration and paid subscriptions. Similar to Monday nights, members are encouraged to mix, share their skills and experiences, and enjoy free play. Depending on attendance and participation, the Thursday format may evolve in the future.
For new members, visitors, and guests, it is recommended to attend the club on a Monday club night at The Petersfield School. Juniors are encouraged to arrive as early as possible, while adults should arrive at 7:30pm. The first few visits to the club are free of charge, allowing individuals to experience the club's atmosphere before committing to membership.
Apart from regular club nights, Petersfield Table Tennis Club also fields several teams that compete in the local Hampshire & District Table Tennis Association (HDTTA) League during the winter months.
