Welcome to Pilateswithgillian, a Pilates studio located in Troon, New Zealand. Gillian, the owner and instructor, aims to create a welcoming and friendly environment where individuals of all ages, fitness levels, and experience can enjoy their Pilates journey.
Gillian, after working as an Optometrist for 30 years, decided to change careers and become a Body Control Pilates Teacher. Her passion and belief in the Pilates Method grew as she experienced the benefits firsthand. Pilates gave her back control of her body, helped her manage her back pain, and allowed her to live a pain-free life.
Pilates with Gillian offers matwork classes for individuals, duos, or small groups of up to nine people. By keeping class sizes small, Gillian ensures that each client receives close supervision and support to achieve their personal goals. Whether you are new to exercise or an elite athlete, Pilates is suitable for everyone. Its slow and controlled approach provides long-term results, connecting the mind and body while relieving stress and tension.
Pilates is a mental and physical body conditioning programme that aims to change the way we move our bodies. Developed by Joseph H Pilates, a fitness guru who emigrated from Germany to New York in the 1920s, Pilates focuses on uniformly developing the body, correcting posture, restoring vitality, invigorating the mind, and elevating the spirit.
Located at 4 Victoria Drive, Troon, Pilateswithgillian welcomes clients to a home studio with an air-conditioned glass roofed area. The studio incorporates three separate areas: a gym for private 1:1 and 1:2 sessions, a glass roofed area for small groups (up to six people), and a garden studio for larger groups (up to nine people). The studio can be accessed through a separate side entrance.
For individuals suffering from low back pain, Gillian offers a Back4Good Pilates programme. This programme focuses on improving posture, strengthening the core, and helping individuals enjoy movement again. According to NICE guidelines, appropriate and tailored exercise, such as Pilates, is a recommended treatment approach for chronic low back pain. Pilates not only provides physical benefits like stronger bones, muscle strength, and reduced stiffness but also improves neuromuscular control and endurance of muscles.
Gillian's Pilates journey began 16 years ago as a means of managing her own low back pain. Facing unanswered questions and feeling vulnerable, she turned to Pilates and experienced its transformative effects. With a background as an Optometrist, Gillian trained as a Body Control Pilates Teacher and furthered her knowledge by becoming a Body Control Pilates Back4Good Practitioner.
