The Pinnacles Classic, organised by the Trail Running Association of Queensland, is a challenging off-road race that winds its way around the picturesque Gold Creek Reservoir in Brisbane Forest Park. Created by Peter Holles of the Brookfield Runners, this event has garnered a reputation as a must-do for both local trail running enthusiasts and those from further afield. With a grueling 18 km course featuring 18 serious hills, this race is definitely not for the faint of heart.
Taking place on 26 May 2024 (date to be confirmed), the Pinnacles Classic is limited to just 200 participants, so it's best to secure your spot early. The entry fee is A$65.00, with a discounted rate of A$58.50 for TRAQ members. Don't forget that refunds are available up to two weeks before the event, minus a $20 admin charge.
On race day, make sure to arrive in plenty of time for the pre-race briefing and start. It's essential for all participants to carry at least 750mls of fluids, as the course can be tough. Halfway through the race, there will be a checkpoint stocked with water, electrolytes, and lollies to keep you fueled up and hydrated.
After crossing the finish line, you'll be rewarded with a selection of fruit, bakery goods, water, sports drink, and even coffee. Plus, there are car-pooling options available during the registration process to help reduce the event's environmental impact.
The Pinnacles Classic starts and finishes at Gold Creek Reservoir, and the course direction switches between clockwise and anti-clockwise each year. Remember to respect the environment by sticking to designated trails, disposing of any litter properly, and obeying general access rules.
