Welcome to Porirua Skate Park, located at Te Rauparaha Park in Porirua, New Zealand. This skate park is a popular destination for skateboarders of all skill levels, and has become the training ground for many talented skaters in the country.
Covering an impressive 900m2, Porirua Skate Park is known for its aesthetic appeal and unique design. The park features 3D images of Te Awarua-o-Porirua and a “fiery skate bowl,” bringing to life the local Ngti Toa story of Awarua the Porirua Harbour Taniwha who wanted to fly. This design was created by Moses Viliamu, a member of the Porirua Community Arts Council, and brought to fruition by internationally regarded artist Mark Spijkerbosch. This collaboration between the arts council, Ngti Toa, the community, and the Porirua City Council has resulted in a visually stunning and culturally significant skate park.
Within the park, skaters can find a variety of elements to challenge their skills and showcase their tricks. The floodlights ensure that skaters can enjoy the park day and night, and the park includes banks, rails, grinders, and fun boxes. Whether you're a beginner looking to improve your skills or an experienced skater looking for a new challenge, Porirua Skate Park has something for everyone.
Conveniently located near a bus stop and the railway station, Porirua Skate Park is easily accessible for skaters from all over the city. Its central location makes it a popular spot for skaters to gather and connect with others who share their passion for skateboarding. In fact, every year the park hosts the Annual Porirua Skate Jam, where skaters come together to compete for cash and prizes.
For skaters in the suburbs, Whitby Skate Park at Adventure Park is a great alternative. This skate park features curved and straight ramps, and floodlights that allow skating until 10pm. Pukerua Bay Skate Park, located next to the railway station, offers a variety of features including stairs, a handrail, banks, quarter-pipes, and vert ramps.
In addition to the skate parks, the Porirua City Council provides other recreational opportunities in the area. Sievers Grove is home to the Southern Hemisphere's oldest bowl, a 1970s long-board classic that attracts skaters with a retro flair. And if you're looking for more adventure, you might want to check out Adrenalin Forest or enjoy a round of mini-golf.
Whether you're a local resident or a visitor to Porirua, the skate parks in the city provide a vibrant and exciting community for skaters of all ages. So lace up your skateboard, grab your helmet, and head to Porirua Skate Park for a thrilling skating experience in the heart of New Zealand.
