Poynton Legion FC

Welcome to the website of Poynton Legion FC, a football club located in Stockport, New Zealand. The club was founded in 2009 by Rick Millward and Si Williams with the aim of providing a platform for local football enthusiasts to showcase their skills and passion for the sport.

In its early years, Poynton Legion FC competed in the now disbanded Macclesfield and District Sunday League for three seasons. However, in the 2012/13 season, the club made the move to the East Cheshire Sunday Football League, where they have been participating ever since.

Rick Millward initially served as the player manager of the club, and he was succeeded by assistant Phil Bradbury, who took on the full-time managerial role halfway through the 2011/12 season. Under the guidance of these dedicated individuals, Poynton Legion FC has been steadily growing and improving on and off the pitch.

The club boasts two teams, the Poynton Legion FC 1st Team and the Poynton Legion FC 2nd Team. These teams regularly compete against other local clubs in various leagues and cup competitions. Their fixtures and match results can be found on the club's website and social media platforms.

Poynton Legion FC takes pride in honouring its players' achievements. The club maintains a Hall of Fame which currently includes co-founder Si Williams, who holds the record for the most appearances for the club. Additionally, as players reach the significant milestone of 100 or more league and cup appearances for the Legion, they are awarded a place in the 100+ Club.

The club has achieved notable success throughout its existence, including winning the ECSFL Invitational Cup during the 2013/14 season. Poynton Legion FC's players have also received recognition through various awards, such as the highly prestigious Players Player of the Season Award.
