Preston Nomads Cricket Club, located in Henfield, is a prominent cricket club with a rich history and a stunning ground. Founded in Brighton in 1927 by Spen Cama, the late President, the club moved to its current location just north of Brighton in 1937. The ground itself is known for its picturesque beauty, offering breathtaking views of the famous Devils Dyke and the South Downs.
As one of the founder members of the Sussex Cricket League in 1971, Preston Nomads made their mark early on, with their 1st XI winning the Championship in the league's inaugural year and multiple times thereafter – in 1982, 1988, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, and most recently in 2021, setting a record of 10 victories. They have also had success in other competitions, winning the Sussex Cup final in 2004 and the 20:20 Cup in 2008, 2009, 2011, and 2015. The 1st XI currently plays in the highest level ECB premier Division.
The club takes pride in its vibrant junior section, which caters to boys and girls from the ages of 6 to 18. With ECB qualified coaches leading the way, the junior section offers a comprehensive training and match programme throughout the year, both in summer and winter. The club is committed to nurturing young talent and providing them with opportunities to develop their cricketing skills.
Preston Nomads Cricket Club is also known for its involvement in charitable causes. They have partnered with the Kangaroos Learning Disabled Charity for the year 2023, supporting their efforts to provide leisure and recreational activities for individuals with learning disabilities, as well as support for their families. The club encourages donations towards the cause during match teas. Additionally, the club extends its gratitude to Hayward & Green for sponsoring their match teas.
