Python Pool is a popular tourist attraction located in Millstream, Western Australia, nestled into the Chichester Range at the base of a seasonal waterfall. It is a picturesque swimming lake surrounded by stunning rock formations, making it a must-see destination for nature lovers and adventurers alike.
The pool itself is a deep and refreshing swimming hole, perfect for those looking to cool off in the Australian heat. However, it is important to note that the pool can be dangerous after heavy rain due to strong currents and debris, as well as during the dry season from algal blooms. Visitors are advised to exercise caution and check the safety conditions before swimming.
In addition to swimming, Python Pool offers a picnic area with a barbecue, making it an excellent spot for a family outing or a relaxing lunch in nature. There are also several walking trails that start from Python Pool, including the Python Pool Trail, which is a short 200m return walk over an uneven surface, taking approximately 20 minutes to complete. For more adventurous hikers, the Cameleers Trail turns off from the Python Pool Trail and leads up a steep hill that was once used by camel and bullock teams. This trail is 4 km return and takes approximately 90 minutes to complete with a moderate difficulty level.
Python Pool is not only a beautiful natural attraction but also a haven for plants, wildlife, and fungi. Visitors can explore the rich biodiversity of the area and even find a list of species recorded within a 5 km radius of Python Pool on the Atlas of Living Australia website.
While enjoying Python Pool, visitors should be aware that dogs and pets are not allowed, and standard park entry fees apply for Millstream Chichester National Park. Visitors are encouraged to plan their visit and consider travelling with a personal location beacon (PLB) for safety purposes.
Facilities at Python Pool include toilets and a picnic table, with accessible paths leading from the parking area. The parking area can accommodate 10 to 20 vehicles and has a gently sloping gravel beach area for easy pool access.
