About

The QMRC Site Navigation Firearms Safety Course is a comprehensive program offered by the Queensland Military Rifle Club (QMRC) in Brisbane. This course is specifically designed for individuals interested in applying for a firearms license and covers Categories A, B, C, D, H, and M.

At a cost of $120.00, participants can attend the course, which is approved for firearms licensing in Queensland. The QMRC, a registered training organisation (RTO Number 45795), conducts the course. It's important to note that no prior knowledge or preparation is required for this course. However, attendees are required to read the Student Handbook and sign a declaration to possess a weapon at an approved range.

The practical component of the Firearms Safety Course takes place outdoors, so it is recommended to wear suitable pants and closed-in shoes for comfort and safety. Candidates must meet the eligibility requirements to hold a Weapons Act license and need to be at least 18 years old to obtain a full license. Moreover, children who are at least 11 years old can use certain firearms under adult supervision with a minor's license.

Adhering to the requirements set by the Qld Weapons Act, the QMRC ensures that possession and use of a weapon at an approved range are supervised by a range officer. However, it's significant to note that there are certain conditions that may make a person ineligible to hold a Weapons Act license. These conditions include previous convictions for drug or weapon misuse, the use or threatened use of violence, or being the subject of a domestic violence order within the past five years.

If participants have any complaints or appeals regarding the QMRC Firearms Safety Course, they can do so using the provided forms and information. The course covers all the essential aspects of the Queensland Weapons Act, including different types of firearms, their basic operation, range procedures, safety rules, and hunting ethics. The morning session focuses on theory, while the afternoon session delves into accurate and safe shooting techniques, as well as maintenance procedures. Throughout the day, two multiple-choice examinations are conducted to ensure participants grasp the knowledge presented.

For Categories A and B, courses are held on the first and third Sundays of each month. However, courses for other categories are arranged on an individual basis. All courses take place at the Wynnum Manly Pigeon Club INC. clubhouse, which is located at the Belmont shooting complex. On the day of the course, candidates are required to sign in promptly at am, with instruction commencing shortly after. In addition to bringing a form of photo ID, participants should dress appropriately for outdoor activities, including wearing a hat and closed footwear.

While tea and coffee will be provided, candidates should make their own arrangements for lunch. This ensures that everyone attending the course can have a comfortable and uninterrupted learning experience.

So, if you're interested in obtaining a firearms license and expanding your knowledge about firearm safety, the QMRC Site Navigation Firearms Safety Course is the perfect opportunity to do so. Register today and embark on a path towards responsible firearms ownership.
