Welcome to Red Boat Kung Fu, the best school of martial arts Sydney has to offer! Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced veteran, you’ll find our school a perfect place to hone your skills and challenge yourself. Our skilled instructors will help you learn the basics of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, wrestling, boxing, and, of course, our signature Wing Chun kung fu. So, choose what you like, and let’s get started!
Wing Chun is a type of kung fu that’s been around for centuries — ever since a civil war in China 400 years ago. At that time, a group of Shaolin masters using different martial arts styles came together and created a new, more practical technique. That one became known as Wing Chun, one of the first and oldest mixed martial arts styles.
Of course, over time, Wing Chun has evolved and changed, eventually becoming the modern version we teach today. But its main principles and the underlying codes of honour, loyalty, and family still remain the same. In many ways, Wing Chun is more than just a combat style. It’s a way of living that requires discipline, focus, and determination.
As such, it’s a perfect martial art for all ages and genders. In Wing Chun, it’s not all about the strength of the strike but rather the economy of movement and logic behind each action. You train your mind as well as your body, and that’s precisely why it draws in so many people from all walks of life.
And to cater to everyone, Red Boat Kung Fu offers classes for both adults and children. We used to be an adults-only school, but it’s never too early to start practising Wing Chun. So now, your child can attend too, every Saturday during the school year!
The first thing you’ll notice when you come to our classes is how relaxed everyone is. No matter what level they are, none of our attendees will look down on you if you haven’t mastered a certain technique. In fact, we work to promote a pleasant, collaborative atmosphere that encourages everyone to do their best! So, you’ll have no reason to feel insecure — we’re all here to make sure you succeed.
As one of the best schools for MMA Sydney has to offer, we’ve made sure to hire only exceptionally talented instructors. Our main instructor and founder, Sifu Rick Spain, perfectly represents everything our school stands for. He’s determined, dedicated, and disciplined, never settling down for average results. He applies a similar philosophy when working with his students, so you can expect great progress with him as your instructor. Currently, he teaches:

● Martial arts during private lessons
Other instructors at our school follow a similar mindset as our Sifu, though everyone has their own teaching style. So come and get to know them all — we’re sure you’ll find all classes enjoyable!
Have you ever dreamt of winning a black belt as a child? Well, now you can actually achieve that!
