Dear Sports Community,
Rachel Robinson, Chairperson of Red Rose Rollers Artistic Roller Skating Club, has a message for you all. Nestled at Turton Sports Centre in Bolton, Red Rose Rollers has been part of the community since 2000. Founded by friends Paula, Connie, and Bill, they recognised a gap in affordable roller skating options in Lancashire and took matters into their own hands. By pooling resources, they secured skates, insurance, and a regular slot at Darwen Sports Centre.
Come 2002, they affiliated with the Federation of Artistic Roller Skating, marking their entry into competitive events. Overcoming venue challenges, the club relocated to Bolton and now runs sessions at Turton Sports Centre in Bromley Cross and Smithills Sports Centre.
Skaters flock from nearby Manchester, Preston, Wigan, and beyond. The club's Friday Discos and occasional parties help fund sessions and subsidise competition costs. It's all about the love of the sport and boosting the local community, not about making a profit.
The club is steered by a dedicated committee: Rachel as Chairperson, Nikki Lohan as Secretary, Constance Halton as Treasurer, Lawrence Herring as Child Protection Officer, Paula Callaghan as Coach Representative, and Child Representatives Jenni Gilligan and Carys Eastwood. Covid Officer Caroline Greenan and committee members Claire Corser, Jo Riley, Sara Cartmel, and Kelly Halligan complete the team.
A proud moment for Red Rose Rollers was securing gold, silver, and bronze medals at the 2023 National Winter competition in Great Yarmouth. Their skaters shone in individual performances, solo dances, and team events.
The club sticks to strict policies and procedures, ensuring safety and well-being for all. They've got docs on child protection, accidents, disco rules, constitution, code of conduct, anti-bullying, risk assessment, and complaints procedure.
