Energetic, and passionate about promoting a healthy lifestyle. Good organisational and communication skills.
Remote Walkers is a sports club located in The Flinders Ranges Council, dedicated to promoting a healthier lifestyle through walking. As a walking group, they aim to build connexions within the community while working towards a healthier heart together.
Walking is known as the “wonder drug” as it has numerous health benefits. Research shows that walking for an average of 30 minutes a day can lower the risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes by 30 to 40 percent. Additionally, walking regularly can help manage weight, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels. It also reduces the risk of developing some cancers, maintains bone density, and improves balance and coordination, reducing the risk of falls and other injuries.
The club offers free Personal Walking Plans, designed to help individuals feel healthier and happier in just six weeks. These personalised plans provide guidance and support to achieve the national physical activity guidelines. Healthcare professionals can also refer their patients to the club's structured and supportive walking programme, complementing their care.
One of Remote Walkers' dedicated members, Maria Group Walker, shares her inspiring story of how walking helped her overcome health issues. She successfully managed to lose weight, reverse diabetes, and stabilise her blood pressure through walking regularly.
Joining Remote Walkers' walking community is easy. Interested individuals can join the club's Facebook group or search for a walking group within a specific radius of their town, suburb, or postcode. Once registered, they can connect with their Walk Organiser, who will provide all the necessary information to get started. Every step taken is a step towards preventing heart disease.
For those passionate about promoting a healthy lifestyle and connecting with their community, Remote Walkers offers the opportunity to become a Volunteer Walk Organiser. As a Walk Organiser, individuals will plan their group's walking routes and meeting places, decide on the time and day of walks, and welcome new members to their group. Training and ongoing support will be provided, along with recognition for their dedication.
By joining Remote Walkers, individuals can enjoy the benefits of walking while building connexions in their community. Walking is a simple and effective form of exercise that has a positive impact on overall mental and physical health.
