The studio provides small classes for people of all levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners, with the aim of improving posture, flexibility, and relaxation.
The studio itself is bright and welcoming, creating a tranquil atmosphere where practitioners can retreat from the worries of everyday life. In addition, when weather permits, the studio has the advantage of a secluded and tranquil outdoor space where yoga sessions can take place.
At Retreat 4 Yoga, the focus is on individual care and attention. With a maximum of six participants per class, all practitioners feel engaged and supported throughout. The instructors take the time to thoroughly explain and discuss new poses, ensuring that each practitioner feels comfortable and has the opportunity to ask questions. Mats and other necessary accessories are provided, simplifying the process for participants who may not have their own equipment.
The studio offers Sun Power Yoga as its primary yoga style. Sun Power Yoga is a unique blend of Hatha, Iyengar, Sivananda, and Ashtanga yoga, allowing practitioners to experience a holistic and well-rounded practise. Classes are 1 hour and 30 minutes long, providing ample time for individuals to relax, stretch, and strengthen their bodies.
Retreat 4 Yoga also offers one-to-one classes, allowing participants to have a class tailored to their specific needs and goals. These classes are suitable for individuals aged 16 and above, regardless of their experience level. Whether an individual is a beginner or an advanced practitioner, the one-to-one classes provide an opportunity to deepen their practise and explore new possibilities.
The word “yoga” means “to yoke” or “union,” emphasising the connexion between the mind, body, and breath. Through the practise of yoga and the synchronised movement of the body with the breath, the mind is focused and relaxation is promoted. These techniques have been proven effective in stress management and the improvement of overall well-being.
Breath control is an integral part of yoga practise. The mind and breath are interlinked, with each affecting the other. By controlling our breath, we can also control our emotions. Concentrating deeply on something slows down our breath and helps us reach a state of concentration and mindfulness.
Yoga not only benefits the mind and breath but also the body. In addition to improving flexibility, circulation, and muscle tone, yoga also helps to reduce stress, increase strength, improve stamina, and enhance balance. Regular practise of yoga poses, or asanas, can play a significant role in maintaining balance, which is crucial for preventing falls, particularly as we age.
Sharon Webb, the instructor at Retreat 4 Yoga, is a fully qualified yoga instructor with certificates from both Sun Power Yoga and YMCA. While yoga has been around for centuries, its structured and popular practise in the Western world was introduced by the YMCA. The YMCA, originally a missionary organisation in India, connected physical exercise with spiritual well-being. With roots dating back to the mid-1800s, their influence gradually spread to the Western world and contributed to the global recognition of yoga.
Retreat 4 Yoga welcomes individuals of all backgrounds and abilities. The studio provides a nurturing and supportive environment where participants can experience the multitude of benefits that yoga and meditation offer. With a focus on care and relaxation, Retreat 4 Yoga is an ideal place to embark on a journey of self-discovery, improved well-being, and inner peace.
