About

Royston Shotokan Karate Association, situated in Royston, Hertfordshire, offers a welcoming space for both kids and adults to learn Shotokan Karate. John, the organiser, aims to share the discipline and fitness benefits of this traditional Japanese martial art in a supportive environment.

The club is open to everyone, regardless of age or skill level, with sessions designed for children as young as six. Classes take place at Court-4, Royston Leisure Centre, Woodcock Rd, from 6 PM to 8 PM on Fridays. Beginners are scheduled from 6 PM to 7 PM, followed by the advanced group from 7 PM to 8 PM. Each class costs £5, payable on the day, but first-timers can join a session for free. Loose clothing and a drink are recommended.

Leading the team is Chief Instructor Hanshi Peter Deacon, with his 8th Dan Black Belt and decades of experience since starting in 1982 and founding the club in 1986. He is supported by seasoned instructors: Sensei Wazeer Varsally (4th Dan), Sensei Nadim Varsally (4th Dan), Sensei Seeyreen Varsally (2nd Dan), and Sensei Derek (3rd Dan).
