Rushnychok Ukrainian Folk Dance

Rushnychok Ukrainian Folk Dance Association, located in Saskatoon, is a not-for-profit parent-run organization that honours Ukrainian culture through dance. The studio strives to embody the vibrant and living culture of Ukraine by offering traditional and modernized Ukrainian dance classes. The team of award-winning instructors continuously develop new and exciting dances that reflect Ukraine's old traditions while capturing the spirit of a progressive and modern nation.

The studio is a welcoming space where dancers are embraced as part of the Rushnychok family. Camaraderie is just as important as technical training, creating a safe and supportive environment for dancers to grow and express themselves. Classes are held on Wednesday evenings and are open to students aged 3 years old up until high school graduation.

The significance of the club's name, Rushnychok, lies in its representation of Ukrainian cultural traditions. Rushnyk is a ritual cloth embroidered with historical compositions, symbolizing life's journey. The rushnyk is used in various cultural rituals, such as christenings and funerals, and holds deep symbolic meaning for Ukrainians. Each region in Ukraine has its own unique designs and patterns, with colours like red symbolizing life and love.

Rushnychok's longest-serving instructor, Shannon Gabrush, has been teaching at the studio for 25 years. With a deep love for Ukrainian culture and dance, Shannon has studied at the Institute of Ukrainian Folk Dance in Lviv, Ukraine, under various masters and professional groups. Her dedication to furthering her dance education has enriched the classes at Rushnychok, providing students with a well-rounded and immersive experience in Ukrainian dance.
