Club and Sailability Wellington Trust was established as a charitable trust, becoming the largest sailing programme for people with disabilities in New Zealand.
2005 The Seaview Marina base was established, expanding our reach and allowing us to serve more sailors in the Wellington region.
2010 Sailability Wellington expanded further with the establishment of the Titahi Bay Boating Club base, providing us with even more opportunities to cater to the needs of our sailors.
2020 Sailability Wellington embarked on an exciting new project, the development of the ParAble-Whakatauki class of sailboats designed specifically for people with disabilities. We are currently in the process of developing two of these boats and look forward to hosting a regatta with them in 2023.
Throughout our history, Sailability Wellington has been committed to providing an inclusive and supportive environment for sailors with disabilities. With over 200 sailing members and 70 experienced volunteers, we offer sailing opportunities up to six days a week from our bases at Seaview, Evans Bay, and Onepoto.
We prioritise the safety of our sailors and operate with strict safety protocols, with 27 specially designed Hansa yachts and 3 support boats at our disposal.
At Sailability Wellington, we believe that sailing is not only a fun and adventurous activity, but also a great avenue for learning, building confidence, rehabilitation, and competition. Our sailors have the freedom to participate in activities that match their personal interests and capabilities, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the lifelong benefits of sailing.
We offer opportunities to learn to sail, allowing individuals to experience what's involved firsthand, and ultimately sail independently if that's a goal. Additionally, we encourage our sailors to participate in local and national competitions if they wish to compete.
As a member of Sailability Wellington, you become part of a supportive and social sailing family, offering lifelong connexions and friendship. We are proud to have a team of dedicated volunteers who support our sailors onshore, manage the docks, rig the boats, and perform behind-the-scenes maintenance. There is a role to suit everyone, and we always welcome new volunteers to join us.
We are grateful for the support of our sponsors, corporate partners, and funding bodies who make it possible for us to continue providing these opportunities to our sailors. If you would like to support Sailability Wellington, there are various ways you can contribute, including sponsorship, donations, endowment appeals, and legacy gifts.
