Brightlingsea Sailing Club is the place to be if you're a sailing enthusiast in Colchester! With a jam-packed calendar of events and a dedicated team of sailors, this club is all about bringing the thrill of sailing to the local community.
From late March until the end of December, the club organises exciting dinghy races that will get your adrenaline pumping. Whether it's a weekend race or a bank holiday event, there's always something happening on the water. And if you're up for a midweek challenge, don't miss out on the Thursday night pursuit races, taking place from May to the end of July or early August.
One of the highlights of the year is the Pyefleet Week Regatta, which takes place during the month of August. This annual event brings sailors from near and far to compete in thrilling races and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere that only a sailing club can provide. But that's not all – the club also hosts a range of training sessions, open meetings, and championship events throughout the year, ensuring that there's always an opportunity to improve your skills and push your limits.
When it comes to race starts, Brightlingsea Sailing Club has got you covered. Most races begin off the clubhouse in Brightlingsea Creek, courtesy of our fantastic purpose-built Sailing Management Centre. This facility, completed in spring 2020 with the support of the LEADER grant scheme, has revolutionised our ability to run races smoothly and efficiently. During the summer, we also have the exhilarating River Start series, which kicks off from a Committee Boat out in the estuary. With courses that incorporate a mix of navigation marks and permanent racing marks, you'll always have plenty of challenges to tackle on the water.
As a member of Brightlingsea Sailing Club, you'll have the opportunity to give back to the sailing community. We ask all sailing members to volunteer for a minimum of 4 racing-related duties each year. Whether it's patrolling the water in an RIB or assisting on a committee boat, your contribution will be invaluable to the success of our events. Don't worry if you're new to racing duties – we offer training and operate a buddy system to help you gain experience and knowledge. Plus, we periodically run RYA Powerboat Courses and Race Management Courses to further enhance your expertise.
If you're keen to get involved in the action, make sure to check our Calendar for all the details on upcoming racing events and courses. We strive to keep it up to date, so you'll always have the latest information at your fingertips. So grab your sailing gear and join Brightlingsea Sailing Club for an unforgettable sailing experience!
