Saxtead School Of Dance, located in Suffolk, is a prestigious dance school that specialises in ballet lessons from Grade 7 to Advanced 2 level. The school is situated in Saxtead and offers a comprehensive dance education for students of all ages and abilities.
The school was established in 1995 by Sandra Hartley and her mother Pauline Stephens, initially offering two Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) classes. After three years, the school moved to its own premises at The Old School in Saxtead, where it continued to grow and expand its repertoire. In addition to ballet, the school introduced ISTD modern and tap classes. Over the years, the school has also taught jazz, tap, modern, ballroom, yoga, keep-fit, and “Tappytots” across various locations including Saxtead, Hoxne, Eye, and Debenham.
In 2015, Saxtead School Of Dance made the decision to become a dedicated ballet school, focusing solely on RAD ballet classes. Currently, the school offers 26 ballet classes per week, taught by Sandra Hartley and her team. All ballet classes follow the RAD syllabus, ensuring that students receive a high-quality dance education.
In 2021, Sandra Hartley made the difficult decision to semi-retire. As a result, all ballet classes up to RAD Grade 4 will be transferred to the school's sister school, Angela Rowe School of Dance. Sandra will continue to teach ballet classes from Grade 7 to Advanced 2, as well as offering private lessons by arrangement.
Saxtead School Of Dance is proud to be affiliated with The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), one of the largest and most influential dance education and training organisations in the world. With over 13,000 members spread across 79 countries, the RAD aims to improve standards and re-invigorate dance training worldwide. The Academy's patron is HM Queen Elizabeth II.
The school's website, designed by Peter Hartley, provides comprehensive information about class timetables, term dates, forms, news, and an extensive video and photo gallery. They also have a testimonials section where students and parents can share their experiences. The website features striking sculptures of Saxtead School Of Dance students by Brian Alabaster, showcasing the talent and dedication of the school's dancers.
