Just 7 miles south of Guildford on the B2128, Shamley Green is a quintessential English village renowned for its cricket ground and two traditional pubs. Nearby, the Shamley Green, Wonersh, Bramley & District Angling Society (SGWBAS), steered by its dedicated organiser, welcomes both novice and skilled anglers to its local coarse fishing club.
Founded in 1950, SGWBAS maintains a well-stocked 1-acre pond in Shamley Green. The pond, home to species such as Bream, Perch, Roach, Rudd, Tench, and Carp up to 20 lbs, offers a peaceful fishing spot for members all year round. Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, a maximum of 8 anglers are allowed at the pond at any one time.
Beyond the pond, SGWBAS offers access to two scenic stretches of the River Wey at Bramley, providing a more challenging fishing experience. Additionally, the club holds two exchange tickets with Cranleigh Angling Society, available through the Secretary.
SGWBAS is particularly keen on encouraging junior anglers. By offering a supportive environment where young fishers can learn from seasoned members, the club helps nurture the next generation of anglers.
For those interested in match fishing, SGWBAS hosts over 30 home and away fixtures each season. This vibrant scene welcomes both veteran match anglers and beginners, providing an excellent opportunity to test their skills.
Membership to SGWBAS is currently available on a first-come, first-served basis, with a waiting list in place for unsuccessful applicants. Members can also obtain guest tickets to bring friends or family for a fishing day at the pond.
SGWBAS prides itself on offering a variety of fishing experiences amidst the tranquil Surrey countryside. Whether at the serene pond or the more challenging river, the club caters to all angler preferences.
