Shannon Shojinkai Shotokan Karate-do is a traditional Japanese Shotokan karate club located in Shannon, Co. Clare. The club is a branch of the larger Limerick Shotokan Karatedo Shojinkai, which was founded in 2012 by Darragh Muckell in the Raheen area of Limerick. The club is affiliated with the ASKI under Michael Hogan Sensei 5th Dan and chief instructor Dave Hazard Sensei 7th Dan.
In 2015, the club joined the JKS led globally by Kagawa Masao Shihan 9th Dan and nationally by Dermot O'Keeffe Sensei 6th Dan.
Since joining JKS, Shannon Shojinkai has expanded its offerings to cater to members of all ages and skill levels. The club provides traditional karate training as well as opportunities for members to compete at the local, national, and international levels. In addition, the club organises annual training trips to Japan, where members can train with world-class instructors in the birthplace of karate.
The club offers classes for children up to 8 years old, aimed at introducing them to the fundamental aspects of traditional karate training. Children will learn Japanese karate terminology and etiquette, how to dress and tie their belt and uniform correctly, and develop self-discipline, confidence, and respect. The club's instructors work with children to build coordination and physical fitness through age-appropriate training routines.
