At a young age, studying various disciplines such as karate, taekwondo, and judo. However, it wasn't until he discovered shaolin kung fu that he found his true passion.
With a deep respect for the ancient traditions and philosophies of shaolin, Sifu Kam dedicated himself to mastering the art. He trained under renowned masters and travelled to China to immerse himself in the birthplace of shaolin kung fu.
After years of dedicated practise and study, Sifu Kam established Shaolin Gym Kung Fu in Hayes. The school is a welcoming and inclusive community, open to students of all ages and skill levels. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced practitioner, you'll find a supportive environment to learn and grow.
Classes at Shaolin Gym Kung Fu are held every Tuesday from 19:00 – 20:30. The school offers instruction in two main systems of shaolin kung fu: “Buk Hok Kuen” (White Crane Fist) and “Jow Gar Kuen” (Jow Family Fist). These systems have a rich history and are known for their effective techniques and practical applications.
The white crane system traces its origins to Tibet during the Ming Dynasty. Inspired by a fierce battle between a white crane and an attacking ape, a monk named Adato created this unique fighting art. The white crane's graceful movements and powerful strikes are a testament to its effectiveness as a self-defence system.
The Jow family fist, on the other hand, was developed by the five brothers known as the five tigers of Jow Gar. Starting with Jow Lung, the eldest brother, these skilled practitioners combined their knowledge of various kung fu styles to create a formidable system. Jow Gar kung fu became renowned for its powerful strikes, fluid footwork, and explosive techniques.
In addition to the main systems, Shaolin Gym Kung Fu also incorporates other disciplines such as “Hou Kuen” (Monkey Boxing) and “Joy Kuen” (Drunken Boxing). These forms, known as sung kung and spiritual boxing, are considered advanced and are only taught to students who demonstrate high moral integrity and a deep understanding of the martial arts.
At Shaolin Gym Kung Fu, the emphasis is not just on physical techniques, but also on uniting mind, body, and spirit. Sifu Kam believes that martial arts training should go beyond self-defence and encompasses personal growth and self-discovery. Through disciplined practise, students develop focus, discipline, self-confidence, and inner strength.
That's why Shaolin Gym Kung Fu is more than just a martial arts school – it's a community.
