Mason, the organiser of Shaolin NPC Training Centre Wellington, wanted to share a quick update with the sports community. The centre is right here in Whitby, Wellington, offering classes for all ages—Pee Wee's Kung Fu for the 4-6-year-olds, Children's Kung Fu for ages 7-12, and Adult's Kung Fu for those 13 and up.
Training takes place at the Tairangi School hall, a spot with off-street parking and heating for those chillier months. There's plenty of space inside, and when the weather's nice, they also train outside, mixing things up a bit.
Mason's passionate about Shaolin Kung Fu, a tradition that goes back more than 1500 years to the Shaolin temple in Northern China. The school's heritage follows the Southern Shaolin tradition, passed down from Seh Koh San, a monk from Fujian and the Chief Abbot of Siong Lim temple in Singapore.
If you're keen to give it a go, you can try a class first-hand. Just get in touch with the local instructor and pop into one of the sessions. For a deeper dive into the art, check out the “Our Art” section on their website.
Mason also runs a blog on the website with posts on various training topics—stuff like the seven basic movements everyone should know, how to train for stability, and shadow-boxing drills for speed and intention.
For those who want to stay in the loop, the school's newsletter is the way to go. It's packed with updates on classes, events, and more.
Mason and the team are committed to promoting Shaolin Kung Fu and providing a good training experience for all. With skilled instructors and a welcoming vibe, it's a great place to start a journey of physical and mental growth.
Catch you at the next class!
