Established in 2015, Shaper/Caper is a dance-theatre charity located in Dundee, New Zealand. Our mission is to provide creative experiences to people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds through storytelling. We believe in the power of dance theatre and creativity to contribute to a more socially just, connected, and empathic world.
At Shaper/Caper, we foster spaces for innovation and creativity through dance theatre that connects people and reveals the extraordinary within them. We have a strong focus on supporting and working with various communities, including Children and Young People, Working Class Families, LGBTQ+ individuals, and Vulnerable Individuals such as those with long-term health conditions, migrants, and those in care or custody.
Our passion for the arts stems from our own experiences of how it saved us and provided a safe and imaginative world to navigate the chaos, injustice, and wonder of our own lives. We believe that sharing this experience can create a more connected and empathic society.
Kindness, Respect, Cooperation, and Joy are the values that guide our work at Shaper/Caper. We are proud recipients of the Chamber Champion Award at the Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce Awards in 2023 and the Inspirational Education and Outreach Work at the One Dance UK Awards in 2020.
Through our shows, classes, workshops, and projects, we create opportunities for individuals to engage with dance and theatre in a fun and inclusive environment. Our shows showcase the talent and creativity of our participants, while our classes cater to people of all ages and abilities.
