Shinkendo, meaning “True Sword Way,” is a system of Japanese Swordsmanship that incorporates all aspects of traditional sword techniques. These aspects include Suburi (Sword Swings and Body Movement), Battoho (Combative Sword Draws and Sheathing), Tanrengata (Solo Forms/Movement Mechanics), Tachiuchi (Structured Sparring), and Tameshigiri (Test Cutting with Live Blade). The club's ethos is built on the foundation of these five aspects, ensuring a comprehensive study of swordsmanship.
Training at Cairnhill CC Shinkendo Singapore includes rigorous practise of Suburi for mastering basic sword movements, correct footwork, and body movement. Tanrengata focuses on solo forms and movement mechanics, emphasising fluid movement, graceful balance shifting, and effective body and sword mechanics.
