With the growth of the Okinawan Karate-Do Club, the need for a more formalised system of teaching arose. In 1929, Kenwa Mabuni, along with other prominent masters, established the Okinawan Karate-Do Association, which became the first karate organisation in Okinawa. This association set standards for teaching and grading, and helped to spread the art of karate throughout Japan.

In 1939, Kenwa Mabuni moved to Osaka, Japan, where he continued to teach karate and spread the art further. He decided to name his style of karate Shitoryu, which means “The style of the four ways”. This name reflects the influence of both the Shuri and Naha traditions in his style.

Today, Shitoryu Karate Association in Singapore carries on the legacy of Kenwa Mabuni by teaching traditional Shitoryu karate techniques and values.
