Welcome to Shubukan Karate, a renowned martial arts school located in Portsmith, Australia. Led by Sensei Michael Ratcliffe, a 4th Dan Karate Black Belt with extensive experience in Shubukan Dojo in Cairns, our school offers high-quality training for students of all ages.

At Shubukan Karate, we prioritise self-defence skills, discipline, and personal development. Our training sessions take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with specific timings for different student levels. Junior students train from 5:30pm to 6:30pm, while senior and advanced students train from 6:50pm to 7:50pm.

Sensei Michael Ratcliffe is a 4th Dan Shito-Ryu and internationally recognised 9th Dan black belt, making him one of the highest-ranking martial artists in Far North Queensland. With his expertise, students receive comprehensive and effective training in traditional karate techniques and weapon handling.

Our dojo, located at 6 Plath Close in Portsmith, provides a safe and conducive environment for learning. We believe in fostering mutual respect among students and encourage discipline and self-control throughout the training process. Sensei Michael Ratcliffe maintains a strict code of conduct, not tolerating bad behaviour or offensive language.

For those interested in joining our karate school, we offer reasonable training fees. Junior fees are available on a monthly basis or a casual per-lesson rate, while seniors pay a monthly fee of $70. We also offer family rates to accommodate multiple members within the same household.

To enhance your training experience, we offer various merchandise, including uniforms, club T-shirts, and mittens. Our uniform prices start from $65, while Junior T-shirts are available for $25 and hand mittens for $22. Additionally, we have shin instep protectors starting from $30 and Japanese Katana available upon application.
